What is it? A market kitchen delivering a changing weekly menu, inspired by what’s in season and available at the South Melbourne Market.
Who’s behind it? Eugene Lavery – South Melbourne resident, chef & co owner of Cafeteria in Blackrock.
Size? 35 seats inside, 6 seats outside (with more planned). Design by Vicky Tu from Two Feathers, fit out by Leeda Projects.
What’s on the Menu? Offering breakfast until midday the menu includes ‘The Marketeer’ ( smokey bacon, soft egg & onion roll), smoked salmon & leek squeak with egg & capers, sweet favourites such as French toast with pear & honey crumble; buttermilk hotcakes with maple, pecans & lemon curd. Lunch dishes change weekly but will always include their signature market rolls of corned waygu brisket, roast chicken or cauliflower & quinoa fritters. Four salads are offered each week using the best the market has to offer. Everything is made in house including mustards, preserves and sweet treats, also with a seasonal flavour.
Bookings? No but private bookings taken on non market days by arrangement.
Proper & Son trades on Market days, Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday from 7.30am-4pm and Friday 7.30am-5pm. Everything on the menu is available to take away.
