Ascot Food Store
A very hip place, always busy and never disappoints. Best known for their doughnuts with delicious flavor combinations and fillings in syringes waiting to ooze out – perfect with the excellent coffee on offer. Breakfast and lunch options are all creative and exciting, some of my favourties are the Brioche with spiced summer berries and the Lobster burger – tasty morsels of lobster sandwiched together by a soft brioche bun. Nestled in picturesque Queen’s Park, the old caretaker’s cottage provided the perfect setting to enjoy a delicious lunch on a sunny day. The service was friendly and even though it took a little while to get our food we were all very happy with the offerings. The wagyu beef burger was a stand out. The menu offers a good selection of breakfast and lunch options all very reasonably priced (most range from $12 – $15). The playground next door makes it perfect for young families to enjoy.

The Valley Cellardoor
This wine bar is a local treasure and why wouldn’t it be? With a warm, welcoming vibe; 100’s of different wines, beers and ciders and friendly, knowledgeable staff – a great experience is guaranteed! It has a number of food options available including antipasto offerings and pizzas (I can recommend the salsicce!). However, if you’re feeling more adventurous the Valley Cellar door has a BYO food policy which means you can order takeaway from the surrounding restaurants or bring your own food and settle in for a great night! Darling St Espresso
Formerly a milk bar, this little corner café has created quite a buzz! From the creative and scrumptious menu to the Milkshake Happy hour and Cake Pops – need we say more? The light-filled interior is welcoming and the staff are friendly and efficient. It is a great place for breakfast or lunch with friends and family. The nicoise salad I ordered was topped with a beautifully cooked piece of tuna. My companions’ dishes were equally delicious – crispy ribs and fried chicken wings. When here you can’t go past the mouth-watering milkshakes – served in cool jars and containing surprises like crushed Tim Tams at the bottom! Price: $$ Open: Monday – Friday 7.30am – 4.00pm.
