The best places in the CBD for your coffee fix
Patricia Coffee

Patricia Coffee

My stand-out favourite coffee in Melbourne. I love the location (hidden), the interior design, the tight choice of coffee, the uniforms and that you can only stand and drink your coffee before heading on your way. An Instagram delight.

Oli and Levi

Oli and Levi

Oli and Levi is a colourful vibrant space. The cafe displays some vibrant art including a funky French piece adorning the walls. You can tell the coffee is good by the waves of local workers flocking in. Oli and Levi is an exceptional cafe and has quickly become one of my favourites in Melbourne.

Black Velvet Espresso

Black Velvet Espresso

You don’t get a better cafe where you can chat with the barista while they make one of the best black brews in the CBD. Darren and his team roast onsite and have coffee for you to take home with you as well. In the market for an aeropress and want to wield it correctly? They will walk you through that too.

Cumulus Inc

Cumulus Inc

A question I always get asked – “what is Australian cuisine?”. I always point people here. It’s run by one of the best chefs in Australia and you can make it as affordable or expensive as you desire. Ask for a seat at the kitchen counter and watch how a silent kitchen team works with a packed house. There’s a wine bar upstairs that can be pricy for their small pours.

The best bars in the CBD
Bar Ampere

Bar Ampere

This is a bar that you can come to on the way home from a night on the town/on the way to work (if that’s your thing) or to kick on all night handily nestled in Russell Place in what was previously a small car park/substation. And that is where the name stems from – Ampere is the measurement of electrical current. Amazingly the bar snacks are outstanding too.

Meyers Place Bar

Meyers Place Bar

At first inspection this looks like a hole in the wall dive but but astoundingly it has won numerous design awards – go figure. Head to this laneway to sample good cheap wine (glasses start at $6 for whatever they have open) or get a few tallies of Melbourne Bitter and stand watch the world go by.

Ferdydurke

Ferdydurke

While the masses jam into Section 8 Bar down below I suggest you take the highroad and head up a few floors. Swing from the balcony or find a nook or cranny to wedge yourself in while sipping on a craft beer, cocktail or wine. They specialise in doing some interesting hot dogs and the music is funky as hell.
