Lucky Penny presents: The Hunter’s Kitchen
When? The Hunter’s Kitchen dinner event will be run throughout the winter season, Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00 PM until late.
What is it? Lucky Penny presents The Hunter’s Kitchen: a brand-new food and beverage concept for winter evenings, which will deliver hearty meals with a unique Scandinavian twist. A smart mix of traditional and modern methods will be used both behind bar and in the kitchen, with the aim of creating big, friendly flavours – warming the soul from the inside out.
Who’s behind it? Head chef Jason Chan was inspired to create The Hunter’s Kitchen during a trip to the Victorian highlands. Jason himself believes in honest craftsmanship in food and using quality seasonal produce to make incredible flavours. He has had a varied and accomplished career in food, having worked internationally in locations like Paris’ Restaurant Taillevent and Saffron in Arrowtown, New Zealand. Jason has worked in many kitchens locally in Melbourne and co-owned Lady Bower café with current owners of Lucky Penny Vanessa Nitsos and Justin Re.
Size? Lucky Penny’s interiors channel the aesthetics of Nordic minimalism and have been fitted out by Biasol Design Studio. Further embracing the Northern theme, subtle decorations like woodland scented candles and pinecones accentuate the space to give diners an authentic Scandinavian experience.
What’s on the Menu? The menu begins with a choice of traditional snacks inspired by Danish smørrebrød, such as in-house cured salmon, celeriac puree, cornichons, dill, celery leaves with Yarra Valley salmon roe and smoked trout, cos, caperberry, apple coleslaw, and boiled egg.
The Jäger Eintopf, or ‘Hunter’s Stews’ are slow cooked and served to share in cast iron pans, boasting hearty ingredients such as Victorian venison, venison sausage, confit red cabbage, homemade spiced pear chutney and Bannockburn free range farmhouse chicken, bacon, roast celery and kale chips.
Diners with a taste for the sweeter things may be tempted by the blueberry and elderflower crumble or the decadent and warming ginger cake with treacle sauce and ice-cream.
