Whenever I have had a long day at work, I’ll crave for my lok lok. it’s my comfort food.
Lok lok is like having steamboat – but you’re standing up at a food truck. Lok Lok is bite-sized food served on sticks that you cook by dipping it in hot boiling water which is usually chicken broth or tom yum broth.
You will have a selection of pork balls, fish balls, cuttlefish, vegetables, oyster mushrooms, quail eggs, seafood tofu, fried bean curd sheets, and wanton that will make your stomach start to growl. There are easily 20-30 different types of selections for you to choose from.
So once you select your food on the stick, you dip it into the hot boiling broth depending on your choice… I personally love the tom yam flavour. The broth at Fat One Steamboat (my favourite Lok Lok food truck) is really good.. thick, spicy and flavorful. I tend to cook it for a long time because I want the food to absorb as much broth as possible. If you like more flavours, there are selection of sauces served on the side to compliment your food – a dark sweet sauce, peanut sauce, and chilli sauce.
The best part of this lok lok is that if you wish to have your food deep fried or barbecued they will be happy to do it for you! You can select anything from the truck and there also extra stuff on the side such as sausages, chicken, beef and really funky ones like chicken butt or chicken stomach. If you like spicy, ask for the chilli powder, you will love it.
I would only eat off the Fat One Lok Lok food truck because I find the food fresh and the broth hitting it out of the park. So if do you see one of the food trucks around (and they are usually everywhere), do try it out. It may end up being your comfort food too 🙂
