Local Food Experts: Torii - Kuala Lumpur

Named after Mr Shinjiro Torii, the man widely attributed with getting Japan’s whisky scene up and running with his Yamazaki distillery, this place is a mecca for devotees of the amber nectar. With tasting notes plastering the walls, bar staff serve a range of Japanese and Scottish single malts straight up, poured over perfectly clear custom-made spheres of ice and in whisky-fuelled cocktails. Yakitori – chargrilled meat served sizzling on skewers – are a fittingly simple yet smoky accompaniment. Expect beak-to-tail-feather chicken, beef short ribs and ox tongue. For those less meat-minded, a few noodle soups and sashimi offer a light reprieve.
