Who is Batch Brew?
Batch Brew is a family-based team of dedicated perfectionists. Their first professional venture into the realms of the drinks industry was with beer, but as their journey progressed and matured they discovered a new purpose and now revel in the crafting of premium spirits. You will find their micro-distillery in Burnley, Lancashire.
Batch Brew are the true definition of a family-run distillery based in Burnley, Lancashire. Lovingly crafted, their Premium Gin is produced in the most intimate batches of captured perfection (see what they did there?). The team don’t ask anyone else to produce their gin – they source everything from the bottles to the botanicals and everything in-between. Produced and bottled by hand Batch Brew ensure quality, individuality, and as honest an illustration of the distilling art as you’ll ever taste. This dedication to DIO (Doing It Ourselves) also spills over into the design, art and literature of Batch.
In turn we are also immensely proud of our Burnley roots and are a local employer who sources local / regional products / services wherever possible.
Since its launch in December 2014, Batch has already gained regional and international recognition, receiving plaudits from such esteemed establishments as Hammonds of Knutsford, and the awarding of a Silver Medal at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Where did it all start?
Not surprisingly (or perhaps it is?), Batch’s journey started in Spain. With its massively influential culture of copa-glasses, vast selections of gins and seemingly countless bars, with each offering a distinctive take on the flavours and aromas of individual garnishes – where better to gain inspiration?!
Amazed by the range of delicate garnishes – from orange segments to fresh basil – the Spanish’s flair for creativity with their gins inspired Phil Whitwell to roll up his sleeves and get to work on creating his very own: Batch.
Whats in the future for Batch Brew?
To grow as they have begun: Organically. A core aspect of Batch’s philosophy is to keep themselves very much rooted in the ‘who’ and ‘what’ of their original definition as a locally-based craft-gin distillery. They have the goal of establishing the North West as a major hub for handcrafted gins that are recognised regionally, nationally and beyond. They are already in touch with other such distilleries in the North West with the intention of forming a regional cooperative, another proud Northern tradition.
Batch Premium Gin Tasting notes
I am intrigued by the inclusion of frankincense and myrrh as I have never had the chance to experience them until now. The spicy fragrance of frankincense and myrrh are the first aromas picked up, some subtle notes of cardamons and cloves then it settles into the stable juniper backbone.
Gin and Tonic with crushed frozen raspberries and lime peel. Glass – Large Copa glass. A large piece of ice.
Batch Premium Gin is handcrafted, individually numbered, and signed by the director of Batch Gin, making every single drop very, very special. They are also soon to be releasing Batch Sloe Gin with hand-picked Hampshire sloe berries and a Betel Nut Vodka with mildly stimulating Burmese betel nuts. Batch is here, and here to stay.
