“There’s an award-winning blog in Melbourne that does an impressive job of keeping everyone up to speed on just about every opening in the city, from food truck to grand diner. The blog has a Twitter account where you can get a running feed on all sorts of stuff to do with food and beverage culture in the city on the Yarra. The team behind the brand – for that is what it is, a brand – are social media masters.”

– John Lethlean, national restaurant reviewer for The Australian and The Weekend Australian magazine.

We are a diverse team of booze hounds, writers, food lovers, ratbags and raconteurs.

We have our finger on the pulse of the industry, from our home in London, across Australia, Asia  and around the world.

We come from a variety of backgrounds – we have spent time being citizen journalists, chefs in real kitchens, waiters, barkeeps and managers  in expensive restaurants, writers for national publications, marketing and PR types for wine, food, culture and lifestyle business, and we know our stuff.

We come from a place of knowledge and experience.

We look forward to sharing our experiences with you and to keep you in the loop of what’s good, what’s local and what’s hot right now.

Welcome and thanks for visiting Sharking for Chips and Drinks – a food and travel blog by writer-photographer team Nic Crilly-Hargrave and Helen Alexander. Launched in 2010 after we arrived in Melbourne – having spent a few years in London covering the culinary scene for several publications – the site has gone from strength to strength.

We have been featured in The Age food and drink supplement multiple times, most notably within a cover story focusing on Melbourne’s lunchtime dining scene, have been commissioned for Melbourne’s The Weekly Review, Asia’s Tiger Airways  Tiger Tails inflight magazine, London’s Beach Pie Magazine and were named the best food and travel blog in Expedia’s inaugural Blogger of the Year Competition. This has seen us spend as much time as we can completing a range of exciting assignments for their website – Out There Starts Here.

Here in London, Nic and Helen are managing the editorial side of things (and of course, we are feasting on everything from street food to fine dining across London) and have just been commissioned for the official food and drink show on Shoreditch Radio.

Sharking for Chips and Drinks on Shoreditch Radio will guide you through London’s most delicious dishes, new restaurant openings and must-visit street feasts and pop-ups. Broadcasting from the heart of Shoreditch, tune in as Nic Crilly-Hargrave and Helen Alexander – the writer-photographer team behind the award-winning site Sharking for Chips and Drinks – chat about all things culinary.

James Saretta, Giulia Morlando and Melissa Jennings will keep you posted on all the latest Melbourne and Victoria happenings, we have Liam and Sam currently lining up some much-needed NSW coverage as a couple of hungry Sydneysiders and have just been joined by Angela who knows Brisbane and Queensland like the back of her hand and our man about town Ben Crilly continues to chart the Gold Coast’s hot spots.  In our Asia team we have Sean and Vivian covering Kuala Lumpur and Wei Teng in Singapore. If you enjoy the blog, please sign up to our monthly newsletter (see the form on the right side of the page). Published on the first Friday of every month it contains our latest posts as well as a few carefully curated articles from some of our favourite food fans around the world.

Write with Us

Well there are just too many restaurants in the world for the mere likes of a duo and their small team of foodies. So you think you got what it takes to join our crew? We’re always on the prowl for foodies who happen to love writing and snapping their DSLRs.

We aren’t currently offering any kind of compensation, so this will be one of those things where we start small, then when we get really awesome, because of your skills, and my skills, and his skills, and our skills, we’ll all benefit! Have you seen the Social Network?

If you’d like to be a part of our pretty team, shoot us a piece!

Here are some other important traits to keep in mind:

b. have pictures! 4-6 good ones! Point-and-shoots, move over.

2. Each writer should love:
